A little while ago I discovered this cute disposable camera that adds silhouettes to the photos. I think it is such a lovely idea! Then I started to think about making my own silhouette photos from pictures I had taken over the years.

I originally had about six photos which I planned to paint actual landmarks on… But after playing around I decided I liked the pattern overlays much better. It looked weird having the Eiffel Tower hanging out in a picture from suburban Adelaide! In the end I used three photos, two were taken on a roadtrip to Mildura, the other was taken from our hotel window when we stayed in Melbourne.

I’m so pleased with how they turned out ♥ I love the look of the white patterns against the pale backgrounds. And it was a fun challenge to try working in a way that is different from my usual style.

this is such a good idea! i would probably end up ruining the photos haha, but i love the idea of mixed media (if thats the correct phrasing…hmmm)

this reminds me of something they’ve done at this great cafe where i live – they have a big thrifted painting on the wall, and they’ve stuck wooden letters on it to spell out the name of their shop. it looks amazing. i’m determined to it out one day!

    xx

ps i have no doubt that you’ll achieve BOTH your dream jobs some day! you’re so talented and motivated :)

I love the idea of re-working paintings like that too! Seems like such a good use for an ugly painting you might get at a garage sale or something :)

And thank you! You’re so sweet! ♥

And what a lovely, quaint idea! Painting patterns over the photos gives it a whimsical feeling!

Thank you! The border in the second photo is actually a window frame :) It was the view from our hotel window in Melbourne~
