Sometimes it’s a good thing to have parents who were really into photography in the 1970s, especially when they never threw anything away. Mum gave me a big box full of old cameras and camera bits to play with, and I am so happy!
Sadly the Kodak Instamatic and the Minolta 400x cameras both take 126 film, which is totally obsolete. Sigh! So I guess they will join my Polaroid 600 camera to just look pretty on a shelf. I know that Polaroid 600 film isn’t obsolete, but at $30+ for 8 exposures, it may as well be. I’ve been thinking about getting a Fuji Instax camera one day to use instead…
The good news is that these two SLR cameras both take 35mm film. And the Yashica still has a roll of film in there! So I’m going to play around and use up the rest of the roll to see what happens. It might end up being a dud, but it might turn out! My first camera was an old SLR, and I took some photography and darkroom classes a long time ago. So it should be fun as all my buried manual photography knowledge slowly comes back to me! ♥

Aww, you’re welcome! Thank you for your lovely comments!
I want all of these please! :) I just found two older Canon 35mm film cameras – I was flipping out. Hope you enjoy!
Ooh, how fun! My first ever camera was an old Canon, they’re really good.
all my vintage slr are from ebay. lucky you!
Aw, thank you!
Those cameras are nice !
I think you should use up the roll. Sometimes a roll can be too old, and the pictures can fail but sometimes the pics can have a real nice effect :) so try it out and let me know what happend! xxx
I’m hoping I get a nice expired film effect and not a bunch of duds, hehe! But it will be fun to find out!
what a great surprise! and what makes them even better – they came from your family! have fun with them.
It’s so nice getting old things that belonged to family I think, because they have such history :)
Those camera look so fun and would look great on display. Its so sad that some film is so expensive or obsolete :-( I would love an instax – i might ask for one for my bday. Am just finished my washing but it looks like its going to rain here so our loungeroom is a chinese laundry.
Our house has been a Chinese laundry all winter! B. irons his shirts and hangs them up from picture hooks in the hallway, haha. We’re very classy!
I looooove old cameras!! My dad gave me his old camera and I’m obsessed with it. Oh and my mom never throws anything away either! Which in some cases is a good thing :)
Yes, I’m so glad to have parents who never threw anything out. Especially because most of those things are from the 70s or 80s!
What an AMAZING gift from your mama! Even the ones that don’t work will look great on your shelf with a stack of old books. Have fun experimenting with the ones you can use :)
Thank you! You’re one of my film photography inspirations! ♥
Nice! I love my old SLR the most out of my camera collection. Have fun with them!
Old SLRs are so nice! My first SLR camera was a secondhand Canon from the 80s ♥
Oh, these are fun! I love old cameras! I have a very old german camera that it utterly cracked and broken, but I love just sitting it out on a shelf to be art. These old machines are art now! Hm, wonder if one day my laptop will be on a shelf, lol. Nice to meet you!~
Hello! It’s nice to meet you too :)
Hehe, it’s funny to think of our modern things as something that might be collected one day!
Old cameras are very cool. My dad has a leica camera that he grandfather used. They don’t make ‘em like they used to!
Oh, how nice! Things were certainly built to last back then.
Beautiful models :) I have a few old manual SLRs and have been collecting Polaroid models for a while. Nostalgia is sweet and strange and thought provoking.
This is such a lovely comment ♥
I love old cameras, even if they don’t work I think they are still really beautiful as aesthetic objects~
So amazing!! I can’t wait to see what comes of those rolls…I’m sure nothing less than amazing froom you! What great memorabilia to pass down to you :) -Lo
Aw, thank you Lo! I’m excited to see how it turns out, it’s kind of fun to have to wait for photos after being used to instant digital photography :)
Beautiful!
Thank you ♥
What fun! Actually waiting to see how the photos turn out is so oddly gratifying!
It is! It’s so fun not getting instant results and having to take the pictures over a period of time.
So pretty! Thank you for the sweet comment!

film is the best!
last week I tried out my Holga with 120 film :)
Ooh, fun! I’d love to have a Holga or Diana camera to play around with someday~
I have a Kodak Instamatic as well, and I was so sad to learn that the film it takes was obsolete! But it does look so pretty on display in my room :)
I know! It looks like such a cute and fun camera to use. Sigh! At least it looks nice as an ornament.
What treasures!!!
I feel very lucky to have them! :)
